POLICE COMMISSION
SPECIAL MEETING
JANUARY 20, 2012
1. CALL TO ORDER
The Special Meeting of the Police Commission was called to order at 9:06 A.M. in the Police Department Training Room of the Simsbury Town Offices. Present were Commissioner Edward Cosgrove, Commissioner Carl Eisenmann, Commissioner Harvey Goodfriend, Chief Peter Ingvertsen, Lt. Nick Boulter, Lt. Fred Sifodaskalakis and PFC Gary Gray. Commissioner Brendan Walsh and Chairman Michael Long were not in attendance.
Due to Chairman Long’s absence Commissioner Goodfriend made motion to appoint Commissioner Cosgrove as the temporary Chairman of the Police Commission, Commissioner Eisenmann seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed.
2. NEW BUSINESS
Chief Ingvertsen presented the Commission with a brief historical account of Officer Milton Saavedra’s absence from work since his work related injury in September of 2010. The Chief stated to the Commission that the Town had recently received written reports from Officer Saavedra’s physician which stated that he had reached maximum medical improvement and had permanent physical restrictions that make him unable to perform the essential functions of his job as a police officer. Commissioner Goodfriend asked the Chief what action he recommended. The Chief responded that it was his recommendation to the Commission that Officer Saavedra’s employment with the Town of Simsbury Police Department be terminated effective, Friday, January 20, 2012 due to his permanent restrictions. Chairman Long joined the meeting
at 9:09 A.M. and the Chief restated the historical account of Officer Saavedra’s absence and his recommendation to terminate Officer Saavedra’s employment.
Commissioner Goodfriend made motion to terminate Officer Milton Saavedra effective Friday, January 20, 2012, Commissioner Eisenmann seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed.
Commissioner Cosgrove asked PFC Gray if he had any comments or questions regarding the accepted motion. Officer Gray responded that he did not and that he was aware that Officer Saavedra was going to be terminated based on a previous discussion with the Chief.

3. AJOURNMENT
Commissioner Goodfriend made motion to adjourn at 9:11 A.M. Commissioner Eisenmann seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed.
