No Phone Zone

A reminder to residents to sign the NO PHONE ZONE promise and receive a free No Phone Zone sundae at J. Foster’s Ice Cream tore.  There are three parts to this promise:  1) no texting while driving; 2) to use a hands free device; and 3) not to use a call phone at all.  We are asking residents to sign at lease one promise.  Four out of five automobile accidents occur due to distracted drivers.

Wagner Woods

In April the Richard D. Wagner Family of Simsbury donated 62 acres known as “Wagner Woods” to the Simsbury Land Trust.  The parcel consists of woods, fields, and stream and wildlife corridors.  Lying to the south of Great Pond Road and to the east of Old Farms Road, the parcel has great strategic value for conservation due to its size, character and location.  Several small wetland areas are sheltered along the eastern side of the woods, and the tract being a large and valuable natural area in itself, is also a complimentary habitat to the Great Pond just to the east and the 40 acre Bog to the west.  This parcel of land permits an unbroken continuation of a wildlife corridor extending all the way to Vermont.~ For over a century, the parcel was a typical Simsbury farm with rolling fields and wooded streams except with the unusual distinction of having portions of it never having its woods harvested.~ Therefore, the same type and mix of trees are present now as when Simsbury was first settled in the 1600s.~ There are very few areas of similar distinction left in the State.
~
Simsbury Land Trust is very pleased to be given this opportunity to preserve this land as open space.~ It’s helps fulfill its mission to preserve protect and conserve green and open spaces in Simsbury.
